About
Making a flyer is no easy feat, you have to have a concept, a name, a theme, all the relevant information, all the irrelevant information, logos, colour schemes and images. Typically flyers for electronic music events will be one of the following:
- Sex sells!
Scantily clad girls, probably in bikinis or licking cherries or posing lustfully. Not very original and not very artistic. Hands up hedkandi, all clubs in Ibiza and no doubt the local establishment round the corner.
This party is gonna be mental, random images, busy design, crazy colours. Music might be hard house, party might not start till the wee hours.
– Swirly graphics/ vivid explosion.
They look cool, the girls like them, nice and safe so its no surprise that they are everywhere.
-One or two colors / Minimal / Cool.
Simple design, a tad abstract. exciting graphics are less important as there is a big name.
- Punk.
Electro / rocky music. Raw. Anarchy in the UK.
- The DJ.
Check out the DJ. It’s important to know what the DJ actually looks like.
I will endeavour to find the best flyers from these groups (except sex sells, go to uporn instead!) and especially dig out the flyers not in these categories, the real gems, as part of ‘flyer of the day’ (FOTD). I will also provide links to handy tutorials and vector sites that have helped in my quest to design decent flyers.
